It has now been two weeks of living in our new house. Most of the boxes are unpacked and things have found their way into a new spot in the house. We are still getting used to our new routine but I’m not really over the shock of moving to the suburbs. I feel like I am back in Beebe except there’s a WalMart closer; and I realized yesterday that the highlight of getting out of the house was going to WalMart because there is no where else to go! The ‘burbs has its perks:
--- Being eerily quiet! No 2:00 am gunshots or cars racing down our street.
--- People are nice! The girl at the DQ (the closest eating establishment to our house) might not have had any teeth but she sure was nice and got the order right!
However, there are a few downers.
--- Limited food options. It’s amazing that our new town has both a Bonanza and a Shoney’s! I didn’t know Bonanza still existed! Guy, should I see if they have an all-you-can eat special?
--- I could go on but to save my sanity let me bring up the big one… the one that inspired this post: NO RECYCLING! Yes, I am serious! This is 2008 and even the big metropolis of Beebe has recycling. Now this should not surprise me now that I know that the city doesn’t even designate ‘trash days’ for your street, but this is America where being green is trendy. I wasn’t aware of just how much I recycled (cardboard cereal boxes to junk mail to baby jars) until I moved and didn’t have the option of recycling. I just feel guilty throwing all those recyclables away so I guess I’ll have to put into action a plan to combat my anti-recycling new hometown. Stay tuned.
